The Brandon J. Hendrick Believe in Miracles Foundation Golf Tournament
BJHendrickGolfTournament Flyer
Brandon Hendrick was an ASU student and a member of the Sigma Chi Epsilon Upsilon Chapter. Brandon grew up in Vancouver, Washington where he excelled academically and athletically. In high school he was diagnosed with osteo-sarcoma (bone cancer)… a diagnosis that dashed his dreams of playing in the NBA but did not dampen his love for Arizona and his desire to attend Arizona State University. Brandon beat the aggressive cancer and graduated on time with his senior class. He rushed Sigma Chi and forged a bond with his brothers…these brothers would rally and support him when the cancer made its return the summer following his freshman year.
Faced with another battle to save his leg and his life … Brandon fought. Brandon’s brothers stood by his side as he missed his entire sophomore year due to chemotherapy and rehabilitation. Undaunted, Brandon returned to ASU in 2008…cancer free and healthier than ever. Brandon rejoined his brothers at Sigma Chi and quickly picked up where he left off. He was excited to continue his life and to be involved with his fraternity.
Two weeks into what would be his sophomore year Brandon felt familiar twinge of pain coupled with an abnormal lump in his hip. The cancer had returned and this time it was more aggressive than ever. With limited treatment options and no hope for survival Brandon bravely began his final journey that would end some two months later. Brandon died on October 14, 2008 surrounded by his friends and family. His fraternity brothers Logan Fry, Brad Carey, and Frank Federer visited him every day and stayed with him late each night while Brandon’s health deteriorated. They all became an extension of our family and continue to be to this very day.
It was Brandon’s dying wish that a foundation be set up to assist others who face similar challenges. The Brandon J. Hendrick Believe in Miracles Foundation was established to provide financial assistance to high school and college aged children who are battling life threatening illnesses. To date we have raised over $13,000 in donations and look forward to being able to raise more at our first annual charity golf tournament this November 20th. Brandon’s legacy will live on … thanks to your support and participation. For more information …call Ed Olsen @ 602-330-7840 or Logan Fry @ 480-205-9050.
